how it works
We offer a week’s worth of sessions (up to three per day) four times per year on a variety of topics. Sessions can be in the form of a hands-on workshop, a lecture/demonstration, or some combination of the two.
You can pre-register for as many of the sessions as you like. There is no monetary registration fee. Instead, each instructor suggests items they will accept in trade for your participation. A list of items is included with each class description on this site. The idea is not necessarily to go out and purchase something to trade, but to consider things you already have that match up with the instructor’s requests. We provide IOU forms you can use to trade contact info with the instructor if you intend to trade an intangible item, such as a service or future experience. Bring your item with you, or fill out a form when you arrive at the time of the class. If you want to take a class and cannot provide one of the suggested items from the list, most instructors are happy to have a homemade treat or gift from you.
Most classes are one hour long; the ones that are likely to go longer than that are scheduled for later in the evening (7 p.m. start time).
Teaching a SkillSwap Class
Anyone can teach a class; the only pre-requisite is that you have attended at least one SkillSwap session. If you are interested in teaching a class, contact us so we can discuss the topic you have in mind, give you a proposal worksheet to complete, and either get you onto our schedule or waiting list.
